Today, I realize the true meaning of Rudyard Kipling's poem: "If".
I was pushed to the absolute edge of my abilities in the pool (I do swim competitively) and for some reason, all the things I thought I needed to push myself competitively were forgotten (I usually think my pride in being a swimmer is what keeps me pushing myself). But that notion collapsed on me today, and I was forced to take a good look at myself while in the pool in between our 15 second rests...Then it hit me. I remembered the time I was just looking around on the Internet (youtube) when I came across a particular poem ("If") and even though I was just looking at it for fun, at the time I was on the edge, I could hear the lines crisp and fresh in my mind.
"If you can dream and not make dreams your master,
If you can think and not make thought your aim....
If you can meat with triumph and disaster,
and treat those two imposter's just the same"
And it just helped me to keep going and going and going....Just pure Inspiration.
